Frequently Asked Questions
Simple answers to common questions about pediatric care, functional medicine, scheduling, and payment at Providence.
Pediatric Care
What ages do you see?
We care for children and young adults from birth through age 21.
Do you provide well-child visits or vaccines?
No. Providence does not provide routine well-child visits or vaccinations. Families should maintain another pediatric or primary care provider for preventive wellness care and immunizations.
Do you see children for regular pediatric concerns?
Yes. Along with functional medicine, we provide sick visits, care for ongoing medical concerns, medication follow-up, sports and daycare physicals, dental or pre-op clearances, and other office services. Visit our Services page to learn more.
Do you offer same-day sick visits?
Same-day and next-day appointments may be available depending on the schedule. New patients should register through the Patient Portal and request a 30-minute initial sick/acute visit. Our office reviews requests and confirms appointments. If your child needs a prompt appointment or you have trouble registering, call (743) 224-7137.
Are you an urgent care?
No. Providence is a scheduled outpatient pediatric practice, not an urgent care or emergency facility. If your child may be experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
Functional Medicine
What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine takes a whole-child, whole-body approach to ongoing, recurring, or complex health concerns. We look more deeply at your child’s history, nutrition, sleep, daily routines, environment, and relevant medical findings to explore underlying contributors to symptoms. The goal is to support better health, comfort, and everyday function.
What should I expect from a functional medicine visit?
Initial functional medicine visits are scheduled for 60 minutes, allowing a full hour to discuss your child’s history, symptoms, and daily life. Complete the requested intake information before your visit. Recommendations may include nutrition and lifestyle changes, medications when appropriate, targeted testing, and follow-up. Learn more on our Pediatric Functional Medicine page .
Will my child need specialty testing?
Not necessarily. Testing is recommended when it may meaningfully guide care. Options may include routine laboratory work, in-office testing, or specialty functional testing. We discuss recommended testing and associated costs. Insurance coverage varies, and specialty testing may involve out-of-pocket expenses.
Do you replace my child’s specialists?
No. Our care can complement the care your child receives from their primary care provider and specialists. Conditions requiring ongoing specialty management should remain under the care of the appropriate specialist.
